CHRISTMAS CRAFTS REVEAL
Creating art for my family has become a tradition every Christmas. Gift-giving definitely became more fun, sentimental, and unique once I started making art pieces instead of buying something they probably already had. First up is this crochet stuffed animal (amigurumi) for my grandmother, based on her beloved Chihuahua, Lucky, who passed away recently. I took inspiration from a pattern online but tweaked it to make it more definitively Lucky-shaped. Then, I crocheted a little sweater to adorn Lucky, as she was never seen without one.
The next project continued along the crochet train. I created a set of four of these flower-shaped coasters for my mom. I lucked out finding this beautiful yarn that perfectly matches the color palette of her living room.
This project by far took the longest. I was new to cross-stitch before this, and I definitely underestimated exactly how time-consuming it is. It’s for my brother and sister-in-law, who love to propagate plants!
Lastly, I made this painting for my dad and stepmom. It’s based on a card game we love to play called Five Crowns. It features very stylized face cards and features its own catchphrase, “The game isn’t over until the Kings go wild.” So, I felt compelled to paint a scene in which these face card kings come to life and, well, go wild. In order to keep it PG, it was more Frat Boy Aesthetic and less Girls Gone Wild. I finished the painting by going over the details with a black fineliner to reestablish the cartoon-like feeling of the cards.
